ABOUT US – THE STORY OF simmpli ethnicc

From a Little Girl with a Needle… to a Woman with a Vision

Hi, I’m Nilima Guptta, the founder of simmpli ethnicc.

I grew up in a home filled with warmth, creativity, and vibrant energy — blessed with loving parents, three elder sisters, and two older brothers.
As the youngest and everyone’s favourite, I learnt by watching, listening, absorbing.
Their passions stitched together the foundation of who I am today.

🌼 A Childhood Woven with Creativity

Every member of my family gifted me a piece of inspiration:

  • My eldest sister stitched clothes for all of us — where I first saw the magic of fabric… and gardening.

  • My second sister, a classical music lover — taught me rhythm, discipline, and harmony.

  • My third sister, an artist at heart — showed me how colours, drawings, and embroidery can express emotions.

  • My elder brother taught me courage through cycling and scooter riding.

  • My second brother taught me contentment and groundedness.

  • My father passed down his love for yoga, nature walks, trekking, and reading.

  • My mother taught me celebration — through food, festivals, getting ready, gardening, and simple stitches like hemming and kaccha-dhaga on old cloth pieces.

In our home, creativity wasn’t a hobby.
It was a way of living.

🌱 Where My Sewing Journey Truly Began

Every summer, my married sister came home and stitched beautiful clothes for all of us.
My little responsibility was to buy the perfect matching threads for her creations — and that tiny task awakened something big inside me.

My mother felt I was too young for stitching classes.
But my father secretly supported my passion and paid my course fee.

At just 10 years old, I joined a neighbourhood tailoring class.
A six-month course… which I proudly completed in four.

Soon, I was stitching clothes from leftover scraps — creating outfits for my sisters, neighbours, and relatives.
All I ever needed was fabric. The rest flowed from the heart.

That’s when everyone began calling me the “designer” of the family.

🎓 Growing Up, Learning More, Becoming Myself

I completed my post-graduation in Sociology, got married to a supportive husband, and once my son turned four, I pursued formal fashion design education.

I worked for four years in an export house, gaining:

  • technical skills

  • deep understanding of garment construction

  • exposure to production, quality, fabrics, and industry standards

Life evolved when I devoted myself to raising my son.
With my husband’s transferable job, we travelled across India and abroad — each place adding new textures, stories, and inspirations to my creative world.

But my passion for textiles and design never faded.
It quietly grew with me.

🌟 A New Chapter with My Son & Grandson

Today, my son is married, and I am blessed with a joyful grandson who lights up my world.

My son gently pushed me to learn again, grow again, and share my creativity confidently in the digital space.
With his encouragement, I decided to reinvent myself — not just as a designer, but as a storyteller of craft.

The Birth of simmpli ethnicc

With the support of my husband, son, and daughter-in-law

For years, I dreamt of creating my own label — one that would:

  • honour India’s artisanal heritage

  • support women artisans

  • promote sustainability and conscious production

  • celebrate breathable, elegant handlooms

  • design for modern women who value comfort, culture, and meaning

simmpli ethnicc is the realization of that dream.

A brand where elegance meets ethics.
Where handcrafted meets contemporary comfort.
Where each creation is made with love, intention, and respect for the artisan’s skill.
